About — Industrial Production Index
The Industrial Production Index (IPI) measures the real output of manufacturing, mining and utilities sectors, expressed as an index relative to a base year. It serves as a leading indicator of economic activity, influencing monetary policy and business forecasts. In the United States, the IPI fell 0.9% in February 2024, marking the first decline since the pandemic’s onset.
