Kharif crops are monsoon-sown crops, significant for India's agriculture. They include rice, maize, and soybean. Rice is a primary kharif crop.
Kharif crops are the suite of agricultural commodities sown with the arrival of the southwest monsoon, typically between early June and mid‑July, and harvested from September to December. Their growth hinges on the seasonal rains that cover roughly 70 % of India’s cultivated area, making them the backbone of the country’s food‑grain basket and a decisive factor in rural livelihoods.
