About — Kharif season

The Kharif season is the monsoon cropping period in South Asia, beginning with the onset of rains in June and lasting until September. It is crucial for cultivating water‑intensive crops such as rice, maize, and cotton, which together account for about 50 % of India's total agricultural output. In 2023, India's Kharif rice production reached roughly 115 million tonnes.
