Linguistic reorganisation refers to the redrawing of political boundaries primarily on the basis of the majority language spoken. It sought to ease communal tensions and improve administrative efficiency, prompting the creation of Andhra Pradesh in 1953, the first Indian state formed on linguistic grounds.
