About — Local Self-Government
Local self‑government is the system whereby elected bodies at the municipal or village level manage public services and development within a defined territory. By decentralising authority, it enhances citizen participation, improves service delivery, and tailors policies to local needs. In India, the Panchayati Raj institutions, such as the Gram Panchayat, administer over 250,000 villages.
