The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013 is a central legislation establishing an independent antiācorruption ombudsman, the Lokpal, to investigate allegations against public officials. It marked a landmark step toward transparency by giving citizens a statutory mechanism to lodge complaints against ministers and bureaucrats. For example, the first Lokpal, appointed in March 2019, began probing several highāprofile graft cases.
