M. N. Srinivas (1914–1999) was a pioneering Indian sociologist renowned for his studies of caste, village life, and social change. His concept of Sanskritization explained how lower castes adopt upper‑caste practices to improve status, influencing both academic discourse and policy. He authored the seminal work The Remembered Village based on his fieldwork in Rampura, Karnataka.
