About — Madras High Court
The Madras High Court, seated in Chennai, is the oldest high court in India, established in 1862 under the Indian High Courts Act. It has jurisdiction over Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry, and its historic building, a blend of Greco‑Roman and Dravidian architecture, houses a marble statue of its first chief justice, Sir Henry Manning.
