About — Metro Rail Act

The Metro Rail Act (Metro Railways (Construction of Works) Act, 1978) is an Indian law that authorises planning, building, operating and regulating urban metro systems. It creates a uniform framework that enables public‑private partnerships and fast‑track approvals, under which the Delhi Metro, opened in 2002, became India’s first metro built entirely under the Act.
