For the fiscal year 2023‑24, MoES received a budget of ₹2,500 crore (≈ US$300 million), supporting 5,200 scientific and technical staff and the procurement of three new geostationary satellites slated for launch by 2026. The ministry actively participates in the World Meteorological Organization’s Global Framework for Climate Services and co‑chairs the Indian Ocean Regional Integrated Multi‑Hazard Early Warning System (IORI‑MEWS) alongside the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Collaborative projects with the European Centre for Medium‑Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the Japan Meteorological Agency have expanded the ensemble forecasting capacity, improving monsoon onset prediction accuracy to 85 % over the past decade.
