The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Health that confers postgraduate medical degrees such as DNB and MD. It standardises specialist training across public and private hospitals, granting nationwide recognition and uniform quality for physicians. In 2022 NBEMS introduced the first MD programme in Family Medicine, broadening formal primary‑care education.
