About — National Water Quality Monitoring Programme

The National Water Quality Monitoring Programme (NWQMP) is a systematic effort by the Indian government to regularly assess the quality of surface and groundwater across the country. It provides critical data for policy‑making, pollution control and sustainable water management. For example, it monitors over 1,500 river sites annually, tracking trends in nitrate and heavy‑metal levels.
