About — Panchayati Raj System
The Panchayati Raj System is a three‑tier structure of local self‑government in rural India, comprising Gram Panchayat, Block Panchayat (Panchayat Samiti), and District Panchayat (Zila Parishad). It decentralises political power, enabling community participation in development and resource allocation. For example, Kerala’s People’s Plan (1996‑2001) allocated 35 % of the state budget directly to Panchayats.
