Panchsheel, meaning five principles, refers to the set of guidelines for peaceful coexistence formulated by India and China in 1954. It became the cornerstone of India's foreign policy, emphasizing mutual respect, nonāinterference, equality, peaceful settlement, and coexistence. The principles were first codified in the 1954 SinoāIndian Agreement on Tibet.
