The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is the unified military of the People's Republic of China, comprising ground, naval, air, rocket and strategic support forces. It is the world’s largest armed force, central to China’s national security and its expanding global influence. In 2020 the PLA established its first overseas naval base in Djibouti, marking a new stage of power projection.
