About — Pir Panjal Tunnel

The Pir Panjal Tunnel, also known as the Banihal–Qazigund tunnel, is an 8.9‑km (5.5‑mile) road tunnel that cuts through the Pir Panjal Range in the Himalayas, linking Jammu and Srinagar in Jammu‑and‑Kashmir, India. Opened in 2013, it reduces the travel time between the two cities from 6 hours to about 2 hours, improving year‑round connectivity in a region prone to heavy snowfall.
