The Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2005 (PMLA) criminalises converting illicit funds into legitimate assets. It authorises attachment, seizure and confiscation of property, bolstering financial transparency and meeting global standards. In 2019 the Enforcement Directorate froze assets worth over ₹1,000 crore of a corporate group suspected of money‑laundering.
