About — Section 29A

Section 29A, added by the 86th Constitutional Amendment in 2002, guarantees free and compulsory education for every child aged six to fourteen in India. It is a cornerstone of the country’s effort to achieve universal primary education and underpins the Right to Education Act of 2009. For example, schools receiving government aid must admit all children without charging fees.
