Section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code gives the High Court inherent authority to intervene in criminal matters to prevent abuse of process and miscarriage of justice. Its significance was illustrated when the Supreme Court affirmed a High Court’s use of 482 to quash a police arrest that violated procedural safeguards.
