Sedition law criminalises speech or actions that incite disaffection against the state, aiming to protect national security and public order. In India, Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code defines sedition and carries up to life imprisonment; it was famously invoked against journalist Kanhaiya Kumar in 2016.
