About — Skill Mismatch
Skill mismatch occurs when workers’ qualifications, abilities, or training do not align with the tasks demanded by available jobs. It hampers productivity, fuels unemployment, and forces firms to incur higher recruitment and training costs. In 2022, the OECD reported that 14 % of European workers were in jobs requiring skills they lacked, costing economies roughly 0.5 % of GDP annually.
