The Socio‑Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011 was a nationwide survey by the Indian government to record households’ income, assets, education and caste. It provides the data base for directing welfare programmes and measuring poverty. The SECC found that about 27 % of households were Below Poverty Line.
