The Taiwan Relations Act is a US law passed in 1979, which governs the relationship between the United States and Taiwan. It reaffirms the US commitment to Taiwan's security and stability, while also maintaining diplomatic relations with China. The law requires the US to provide Taiwan with defensive arms and to notify Congress of any arms sales to Taiwan.
