About — Tenancy Act
The Tenancy Act is legislation that defines the rights and duties of landlords and tenants, governing rent, eviction and security of tenure. It is important because it balances owners’ interests with occupants’ protection, promoting housing stability and preventing arbitrary displacement. Under the Maharashtra Tenancy Act 1961, a tenant who occupies a property continuously for twelve years can acquire it.
