About — Treaty of Sugauli
The Treaty of Sugauli (1815) ended the Anglo‑Nepalese War, redefining Nepal’s borders by ceding territories such as Sikkim, Kumaon and Garhwal to the British East India Company. It established Nepal as a sovereign kingdom with limited external affairs, laying the foundation for its territorial shape. The treaty’s demarcation of the Mechi River as the eastern boundary remains in force today.
