UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) is a government initiative launched in 2016 to make air travel affordable and increase connectivity to underserved tier‑2 and tier‑3 cities. By offering financial incentives to airlines, it aims to develop a network of about 500 regional airports. As of 2023, the Delhi‑Shimla route operates with fares as low as ₹2,999.
