Andhra Pradesh's Top 50 SME Initiative

On Thursday, the India SME Forum announced the launch of the ‘Top 50 SMEs of Andhra Pradesh’ awards, aiming to spotlight firms driving innovation, exports and employment. The initiative arrives as state governments such as Tamil Nadu revise revenue forecasts and earmark funds to strengthen MSME growth, underscoring the sector’s central role in India’s economic output. MSMEs currently contribute about 30 % of India’s GDP and support over 120 million jobs, and the awards will assess criteria including export earnings above ₹500 crore.

Andhra Pradesh SME Awards and Tamil Nadu Revenue Boost: Implications for MSME Growth

The India SME Forum (ISF) announced the launch of the ‘Top 50 SMEs of Andhra Pradesh’ on Thursday, with nominations closing on 23 August and the award ceremony slated for the first week of September. In a parallel development, Tamil Nadu’s revised budget now projects total revenue receipts (TRR) at ₹3,50,027 crore— ₹5,452 crore higher than earlier estimates—driven largely by the state’s participation in the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB G RAM‑G) scheme.

The ISF’s new programme recognises enterprises that excel in innovation, exports, employment generation, sustainability and overall contribution to economic growth. Andhra Pradesh was selected as the second state in a seven‑state rollout that includes Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana. The awards aim to provide a “Recognition & Growth Platform” that can help firms enhance competitiveness and secure automatic nomination for the India SME 100 Awards.

  • Nominations must be filed on https://www.top50sme.in by 23 August.
  • The award ceremony is expected in the first week of September 2024.
  • Selected firms will receive automatic eligibility for the national India SME 100 Awards, subject to standard criteria.
  • Andhra Pradesh’s industrial landscape features a strong mix of manufacturing and services, underpinning its selection.

Tamil Nadu’s Revised Revenue Receipts

Tamil Nadu’s latest budget documents show a TRR of ₹3,50,027 crore, up from the earlier estimate of ₹3,44,575 crore. The uplift stems from a ₹9,790 crore rise in Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS), chiefly the VB G RAM‑G rural job guarantee mission. Under the scheme, the state contributes 40 % of the total outlay, amounting to ₹5,057 crore, while the centre’s share brings an inflow of ₹7,586 crore. Additionally, the state is slated to receive ₹3,461 crore under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), the precursor to VB G RAM‑G.

  • Revised TRR: ₹3,50,027 crore, a rise of ₹5,452 crore over the original estimate.
  • CSS increase: ₹9,790 crore, driven by the VB
