About — Katchatheevu
Katchatheevu is a small, uninhabited coral island in the Palk Strait, administered by India but claimed by Sri Lanka. It is significant because the 1974 Indo‑Sri Lankan Maritime Agreement designates it as a fishing sanctuary, allowing Indian fishermen to cast nets there without customs checks. In 2010, India and Sri Lanka reaffirmed the treaty, confirming its status.
